  • Random Thoughts …

Came home last week from Dallas to find a brand new shiny big girl shovel at my house thanks to Beachy and Rumpshaker.  I was able to use it last night to plant all but the 10 new plants I bought on Saturday.  Woo Hoo!  Now I did not prep the yard like I should have so I think I only know where “there is” when it comes to the new plants but that is OK.  Catlady gave me so tips to beat the system on weeds that I will be exploring hopefully soon.  Depends on if I go a mulching this weekend or not.   I kind of want to go get the free stuff at the city site but that would require a truck or me bagging it up and then unbagging back at my house.  hmm we shall see!

I just finished reading The Secret.  I like the basic principle of the book and I even believe in it most of the time but I am finding it difficult being so damn happy and positive ALL THE TIME.  I am a sarcastic soul by nature and now I am afraid that is impeding my enlightenment!  If anyone has read the book or has been able to reconcile the two, pls comment.  I am curious to hear your views.  The one thing the book encourages you to do is to count your blessing and be thankful each and everyday.  I do love this idea.  I know I am so lucky to have such great friends and family…they are loving, funny and most of all supportive.  They even know the right things to say when it matters the most at the oddest times of the day or night.  Thank you all

  • 13 hours later ….

my mtg in Dallas is going good but seriously, we met for 13 hours yesterday.  Luckily we did have one margarita break at the 7:30pm break.
the mtg is at the airport hotel in a room with no windows, the only bad part.  I did have to go “top side” during a break yesterday to get a glimpse of the outside world to refresh my eyes.

Monday’s gardening turned into angry gardening as I broke 1 of 2 shovels I know proudly own, leaving me with the hobbit size shovel only.  Of course  I was to cranky to just go buy a new shovel as I muttered curses under my breath.  Half of the new plants are in the ground and more progress made in the backyard.  Slowly the wheels are turning!

All I know is I am so going to the beach Saturday!!!!

  • What is that old saying, “The best laid plans of mice and men …”

well whatever that means, I know it means for me at the close of this beautiful 4 day weekend, I still haven’t done much around the house.   Instead I haven enjoyed time with friends and family and well, have been busy! Beachy and I went to see the new Pirates movie at this great little theater down on the beach.  This place is VERY old but it is quaint and they server beer and wine along with popcorn and snow caps – you really can’t beat it.  Saturday I did make some head way on the back yard over by the hammock area but I did not plant my new ground cover yet ….and then met up with Beachy, Nolegirl and Echo and crew at the beach for Sand & Symphony.  The orchestra was great and the fire works were pretty good too.  The weather was perfect.  Yesterday I went to a cookout for a little while with Sunshine.  I could have stayed longer but I really wanted to read this book I started earlier that morning and I admit, I wanted to watch the NASCAR race.  I know, I am a geek.

So far today I have done an abbreviated workout and thought about working out in the yard or going to the beach.  I know you are putting your money down on the beach but it is still 50/50 at this time.  I have to leave for Dallas tomorrow and I have to do a little more prep on my presentation as well as pack etc.  Going to the ball game tonight so I really can’t wait to the last minute like I normally do.

Now for comments on taking pic of yard for before and after.  Will try but basically picture a run down lawn where the grass has turned to hay because I actually follow the water restrictions.  My new nieghbor just had new sod and fence put in her backyard, while beautiful it makes mine more pathetic looking, thank the sweet 61b 8oz baby Jesus that my property is not adjacent to hers, I would probably bring her home value down – LOL.  The plants that are alive are all because they are fighters and native.  In a word, overgrown or fluffy as I like to call it.  My slow progress on Saturday was mainly do to my stopping and cursing my ex every oh I don’t know 30 mins.  He took some of the better yard and hand tools with him and it makes me cranky.  I know I can go buy more but I am stubborn and don’t want to.  So there. picture me sticking my tongue out right now for the visual.

For those who asked, the BAV program is Echo’s hubby and kids that she kindly borrows out (Beachy came up with the great name) when we need a home project done.  The “Borrow A V_” program is just hellacool.

Whew – this was a long one – hope you all have a good day and don’t forget to say a pray for our soldiers and remember our veterans today.

  • Happy Hump Day!

yeah, almost Friday!  I took Friday off for a 4 day weekend, yeah!  If I can survive writing 4M analytic rpts between now and then, I have lots of fun planned.  One of my exciting projects is starting phase 1a of “Never mow my lawn again”.  Now I hear you snickering out there in xanga land saying “ha! baggy, you never mowed in the 14 years you lived there” …well that is true – and I want to keep it that way!

I have already activated the BAV pgm so units #2 and #3 are on standby.  I have an in-law on standby too but hopefully I won’t need them forever because I will be turning my yard into a tropical oasis.   We have a garden ctr here that only deals with FL native, draught tolerant plants.  Guess where I have been shopping?!  Phase 1a bought the ground cover for the front easement.  Now to plant this weekend!  Woo Hoo!

It will probably take me 2 yrs or so to do this but it is nice to have a plan again for something …the Capricorn in me is happy

  • It is official – I am getting OLD.

Now how did I come up with this kernal of wisdom?  Well because time is just flying by for me lately and that is surely a sign that you are getting old.  Remember when you are a kid and time moved by so S L O W L Y when you were waiting to go on a trip or Christmas or well anything you want to do?  Not anymore buddy, I feel like there is not enough time to do all the things I want to do let alone need to do.  It is a conundrum.

I was in Dallas most of last week and even though I took my laptop the hotel I was staying at had problems with it’s wireless on my floor so I couldn’t post.  The meetings went well but long and it was nice to see some of my friends in other affiliates across the country.

Got a few things on tap this weekend, watching friends/co-workers play dodgeball today, hanging out with the girls tonight and hopefully planting my new plants that will turn into lush beautiful ground cover for my front easment/yard and the beach tomorrow.

For those of you who watch Grey’s Anatomy, what did you think of the season finale?  I thought it was harsh and didnt care for it.  Geez, can’t someone have any friggin luck on that show?  The writers need to borrow my rose colored glasses.  I might have to stop watching it.

    Have a good day everyone!

  • I ammmmmm bbbacccckkk!

Yes it is 86 glorious degrees and I am heading for dinner and a beach walk at TI with Beachy!  Woo hoo!
The “package” (Millie) is back at her la casa safe and sound.  She is pretty tired and so am I.

Why you say?  well Cuz#2 arrived LATE friday night.  To kill time #4 and I went to see #1 and his family.  we proceed to get buzzed and I was having fun busting chops with my cuz.  #1 Cuz is your typical NY boy.  The hair, the accent, the attitude and it is so funny to me sometime to see him interact with a family.  I know twisted but that is me.  He gave funny dating advice after we discussed my divorce.  If I am drunk one night while I am blogging, I might share.

Anyway since #2 hit town I could no longer get on the PC cause he was hogging it up!  Well, and we were busy too getting ready for the communion and last night I finally ran out of juice about 10pm.

I had sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun hanging out with the fam.  I am trying to figure out a way to visit every 3 to 4 months.  I mean, why not?  will try to upload some pics by tonight or tomorrow.  Got a busy week at work ahead of me and Cinco de dodgeball practice on Saturday at the beach.

TTFN – will make the rounds to all of your sites later tonight.   Don’t forget to visit Cousin #5s site (see previous post).  I want him to be a xangan.

  • Millie-ism Installment #2

yesterday #5 and I took her to see her sister Susie at the nursing home.  It was sad …her sister has declined quite a bit since Millie had last seen her (2yrs ago) and she didnt recongize Millie.  So we visited for a while but we both could tell that it really bothered her.  We took her to lunch after where she started imparting more gems.

On family – Everyone is out for their own blood.  You stick with family (and she isn’t even the Scilian one)

On love the 2nd time (cause she asks me all the time now if I am dating yet) “you tell him, no money, no honey”

Today #3 is coming into town.  the weather is CRAPPY – pray for sunny skies for saturday so we can make it to Coney Island!

Cuz #5 has started his own blog Cuz#5 is the one who is the actor and I have put some of his short clips on my site before.  I am having so much fun hanging out with him at his apt.  I got to hangout with #4 last night for a bit.  It is probably good we don’t live in the same town for the sake of our livers.

  • oh my!  more Millie-isms later.  Staying with Cuz #5 who has a pretty fast internet access so I can keep you all posted.  Last night she busted out with “the children suffer for their parents sins”  #5 thought that explained a lot since he is a struggling actor.  oh AND she keeps calling me a pain in the ass.  Now you know where I get it from.

Cuz #3, #4, #5 and I were up late last night catching up – it was great.  We drew straws to see who was going to take Grandma to see her sister Suzy over in Flushing.  #5 & I drew the short straw for this task.  Sister Suzy is in a home and doesn’t recognize anyone anymore …don’t worry, I’ll take my camera and Wilbur the traveling pig will be in tow.
